Locally Haiti News & Events
In the coming weeks and months, Locally Haiti will launch new initiatives that respond to the hunger crisis by listening to local leaders, and investing in their talents and ideas. Read our recent report on the current state of food insecurity in Petit Trou below.
Last week, Hurricane Melissa caused damage across the south of Haiti. While tragic losses occurred in other communities, our partners and friends in Petit Trou are safe and sound and we are grateful to report that there was no loss of life. Due to persistent rains and standing water in the courtyard, St. Paul’s School was forced to close for several days, but as of this week, school is back in session.
Join us in Denver to view our latest short film, see a presentation with the latest photos and updates from Petit Trou, and meet new staff members, Sophia Gould & Pierrette Decime. Drinks and apps will be provided at no cost.
Join us on Zoom to meet new members of our staff, hear updates from Haiti, and engage in a Q&A with our leadership team.
As summer wound down this year, Petit-Trou-de-Nippes was filled with a special energy. Two local partners of Locally Haiti, St. Paul’s School, and the Association to Support Families and Farmers (ASFPN) worked with local leaders and families to create moments of learning, creativity, and joy at a time when every safe space is a victory.
In the past two months we've planted 532 pineapple trees, 336 plantain trees, 174 melons, and nearly 1,100 flowering bushes that enhance soil health while creating beauty across the campus. There are also mango, avocado, cherry, and lime trees started on site, and our team is almost ready to begin planting vegetable garden parcels.
Petit Trou’s Locally Haiti-supported youth chess league hosted its first tournament in July. More than just a tournament, the event celebrated hard work and discipline, good sportsmanship, and building community.
Petit Trou’s Locally Haiti-supported youth chess league is underway and growing quickly! In February 2025, our partner ASFPN launched the chess program with students in Petit Trou.
Thank you to all who were able to join us at Evening for Haiti. See photos from the event.
