Thank you to Episcopal Relief & Development
Locally Haiti and our friends and leaders in Petit Trou are deeply grateful for the support and partnership of Episcopal Relief & Development. This collaboration has allowed us to strengthen two core pillars of our work: education and healthcare. Both are essential to the long-term stability and development of the communities we serve in Petit Trou and both have prospered over the past two years with Episcopal Relief & Development support.
Creating Pathways to Higher Education
Thanks to Episcopal Relief & Development funding, Locally Haiti has established a scholarship program for 15 students at BTI, the Episcopal University in Les Cayes. This scholarship provides options for 2 and 4 year degrees, and focuses on holistic development and the long-term success of recipients. Episcopal Relief & Development’s support has reduced barriers to education in Petit Trou, investing in a scholarship program that engages local leaders and schools while encouraging shared responsibility between families, BTI, and Locally Haiti. Families remain actively involved and parents commit to covering remaining needs where possible.
Through the scholarship program, Locally Haiti:
Directly pays school fees for participating students
Provides monthly financial support to help cover transportation and food costs
Purchases books and learning materials as needed
Offers a special fund to help students begin the school year prepared
Creates opportunities for extracurricular activities chosen by the students. This year our focus (which was chosen by the students) is on English courses and social events to create cohesion among the group. English courses are taught in-person by Pierrette Décime, and virtually by Teresa Henry, long-time Locally Haiti supporter and advocate. The blended approach expands students’ exposure to language learning to help them become more globally connected.
To close the year, Locally Haiti hosted a Christmas celebration, where students received modest funds to purchase gifts and participate in a group gift exchange. According to their feedback, this gathering was a moment of joy, connection, and shared pride. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity and for the support they received throughout the year.
Locally Haiti is proud to support young leaders in our growing community, and this program would not be possible without leadership from Episcopal Relief & Development.
Expanding Access to Community Health
Episcopal Relief & Development’s support has also been critical in Locally Haiti’s efforts to reinforce community healthcare. Episcopal Relief & Development support helps:
Provide stipends and continuing education for Community Health Workers
Fund salaries for dedicated staff at the community hospital
Procure and deliver supplies and provide investment in special programs and events
Community Health Workers play a vital role in reaching remote regions of Petit Trou. Families in these areas often have limited access to health centers as many cannot regularly afford transportation to receive care. Without the work of Community Health Workers, many essential services would be unavailable in rural communities. Children would go unvaccinated and go untreated for malnutrition. Families would lack access to family planning services. Pregnant women might not receive timely referrals, increasing the risk of complications.
Thanks to support from Episcopal Relief & Development, in 2025, our Community Health Workers have reached over 23,000 people in Petit Trou.
In the past three months alone, this has included:
3,037 children under age 5 seen by a Community Health Worker
2,372 vaccinations provided to children aged 0 to 60 months
166 children received nutritional monitoring
876 children ages 0-7 received Vitamin A and deworming
218 women received pre- or post-natal monitoring
2,162 people provided access to family planning and reproductive healthcare
20 people received home visits for specific ailments, medications, conditions
